115 days until the start of the 2010 Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.

History

The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride was started in 1989 by Peter Smith-Nicholls, the year after he cycled from John O'Groats to Land End following the death of his father from cancer. The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride is Peter's way of continuing the fund raising he started in 1988 when he cycled the length of the country.

Forty people took part in the very first Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, and between them raised £2,500.00. The event now attracts around 800 cyclists, and in 2009 raised just over £90,000. Since 1989, the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride has raised in excess of £750,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, all of which has gone towards supporting people living with cancer.
