There is a Fresh New Start to the 2010 Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride. Due to the success of this event over the past two years we have started to outgrow our start/finish area in Broadstone. The new start in Corfe Mullen not only gives us more space but it does mean there are some new distances to cycle this year. One advantage is all the rides will be circular without the same ground cycled twice on the outward and return trip.
Once again we are pleased to provide the six courses.
The new 10 mile ride is idea for the young and not so young. This ride consists of a mixture of country lanes, cycle paths and local roads. We have endeavoured to respond to requests for a ride along the local cycle path for youngsters, there are just a couple of right turns which can be taken with care.
The 20 mile ride was previously the 25 mile ride, this is an easy step up from the previous 15 mile ride! This ride takes in the River Stour and Charborough Park.
The 38 mile ride follows the Stour Valley to Blandford and then the Winterborne Valley to the refreshment stop at Winterborne Kingston.
The 48 mile ride also follows the Stour Valley to Blandford and then takes cyclists to Bulbarrow and Milton Abbas before rejoining the 38 mile ride in Winterborne Whitechurch.
The 60 mile ride follows the route of the 48 mile ride but includes the Dewlish/Cheselbourne loop for refreshments in Cheselbourne.
New for 2010 is the improved Macmillan Dorset 100. Following the successful introduction of this ride two years ago we are pleased to make the route more interesting this year. Instead of two simliar laps the ride consists of an outer lap and then an inner lap with less than 4 miles cycled twice. The ride goes further north west to explore some new villages and quiet lanes. Some of the towns and villages visited this year are: Wimborne, Blandford, Oakford Fitzpaine, Hazelbury Bryan, Glanvillies Wooton, Mapowder, Piddletrenthide, Cheselbourne, Milton Abbas, Winterborne Valley, Bulbarrow. The route joins the other longer rides at Winterborne Whitechurch for the same route back to the finish. Please note this ride is for the serious fund raisers, we do expect over a total of £100 raised from those taking part in this ride.
